    The New FMLA Regulations: What You Need To Know Now!

    The Department of Labor's new FMLA regulations go into effect on January 16, 2009. Delaware employment law attorneys William Bowser and Scott Holt will help you comply with the new requirements. The following topics will be covered:

  • New "military caregiver leave" permitting family members of wounded military personnel to take up to six months of unpaid leave in a 12-month period to care for their relatives during the recovery process
  • New "qualifying exigency leave" permitting families of National Guard members and the reserves use up to 12 weeks of leave to manage the members' affairs while they are on active duty
  • New definitions of a serious health condition; new regulations on chronic serious health condition
  • Prohibitions on direct supervisors contacting the employee's health care provider about a medical certification
  • Expanding the notice requirements for employers and employees; explaining how employers may settle FMLA claims

    SHRM Sponsors Funding for HR Internships
    The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Board of Directors recently announced the availability of funding to support HR internships. Students studying HR at the undergraduate or graduate level are invited to apply and compete for funding to help support themselves during a summer or fall 2008 HR internship. This financial support underscores SHRM's commitment to the next generation of HR professionals by providing an opportunity for students to take advantage of internship opportunities that will help them prepare for their career.

    Frank B. Ingraham, SPHR, received the 2008 Ron Shane HR Lifetime Achievement Award. At the 2008 Delaware State HR Conference, Pat Buhler announced that Frank was selected to receive the highest recognition in Delaware's HR community for his contribution to the profession. He is president of the State HR Council, past-president of Delaware SHRM and is a Human Resource Consultant with the DuPont Company reporting to the Corporate Human Resources Director of Personnel Relations and North American Operations, and is focused on the planning and support of implementing the HR Transformation project for DuPont North American Operations. If you've been planning to earn your Professional Human Resources (PHR®) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR®) designation, now is the time to enroll in Villanova's updated and expanded HR Certification Institute exam preparation course based on the SHRM Learning System®.
